FAQ About Our Physical Therapy Services

What is Physical Therapy
Physiotherapists are highly trained movement specialists.  They have obtained masters level education in how the body moves and pathologies that affect how it moves. They use a combination of different physical therapy techniques in order to improve function, mobility and quality of life.  This may include hands-on treatment, therapeutic exercise prescription, education and other modalities including acupuncture.  Physiotherapists:
  • Assess, diagnose and treat clients based on their presenting physical symptoms relating to a variety of causes
  • Educate clients on the cause of their condition and various self-management and injury prevention strategies
  • Collaborate with clients to develop customized treatment to help restore movement, reduce pain and improve function in order to achieve their treatment goals
Physiotherapists work together with their clients to develop an individualized physical therapy  plan.  Success rates are higher when clients are actively involved in their own recovery.

We will bring a portable treatment table and a case of supplies to your home and set up a treatment space in a suitable room in your home (kitchen or living room usually works best). We only require that you have a space large enough to set up the portable table and possibly to demonstrate and perform physical therapy exercises. We have access to most of the same treatment modalities that are available in-clinic.

We ask for 24 hours notice on cancellations, as your appointment time is reserved just for you. However, we understand that things come up and you may not be able to make your appointment. In this case, we ask that you give us as much notice as possible, ideally at least four hours.  We often have a waiting list, and your spot can only be filled if we are given enough notice. We have a zero tolerance policy for no-shows, and you will be charged $50 if this occurs, or if you fail to cancel your appointment within four hours of your appointment time.

No, we do not have a contract with Alberta Health Services.

We are not currently set up to treat WCB or MVA claims, and as such we cannot bill WCB or your motor vehicle insurance for your treatment. If you still choose to have treatment at Kinetic Mobile Physiotherapy, please note that you will be responsible for the treatment cost, and we are not responsible for any fees that are not re-reimbursed by WCB or your motor vehicle insurance company.

As direct-access healthcare professionals, physiotherapists do not require a doctor’s referral. This means that anyone can self-refer to have access to a physiotherapist. HOWEVER, some extended health care providers require a doctor’s referral in order to reimburse you for physical therapy services. In most cases, a referral is not required, but is recommended to call your provider to confirm your coverage amount and determine if a referral is required.
